Having worked for one organization in his entire life, it stands to reason that Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi understands the business model of Bradesco Bank currently the second largest private bank in Brazil. At the age of 17, he joined Bradesco Bank as a bank clerk and began working to where he is today.
Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi may never have predicted him becoming the fourth president of Bradesco, but those who worked closely with him knew he was capable of ascending to the highest echelons of the bank. He would become the banks Marketing manager after working for fifteen years in various other departments within the bank. This would help him get a grip on how everything blended together to form the beautiful machine that is Bradesco. Luiz Carlos Trabuco Cappi would help propel the bank’s image at a time when it was struggling to help its clients understand its various services and had no large media presence. He took up the challenge and quickly embarked on a journey leading to the recognition of his efforts even within media circles. He was actually regarded as one of the most approachable and open marketing executives of a private bank. His work in marketing would earn him the role of managing director. He held this role for one year and was then promoted to executive vice president. Guilherme Paulus is now listed on the Forbes billionaires. This came as no surprise for those who knew him and how ambitious he has always been. Being on the list for him was not a goal, but rather a result of wise investments he has made all over Brazil, especially in the tourism Industry. The industry has in the last few boomed, and this has meant that Guilherme Paulus has seen the value of his assets skyrocket and the real return on investment is now being felt. Guilherme Co-founded tour operator CVC Brasil Operadora e Agencia de Viagens S.A in 1972. He had partnered with a popular Brazilian politician, who would later leave the venture within the first four years at the time Guilherme Paulus was just 24 years old.
Paulus was committed to the venture, and despite being young and lacking resources, he was determined, and it was under his leadership the tour operator grew to become Latin America’s largest tour operator.
This level of success would not go unnoticed by equity groups who were at the time eager to invest, especially boosted by the expected numbers that would be coming as the country neared hosting the world cup. In 2009, Carlyle group entered into an agreement to buy a 63.6% stake in CVC at an estimated price of 420 million dollars. The Carlyle group was already aware that Paulus founded GJP Hotels and Resorts at the time owned and controlled more than fifteen hotels and resorts in Brazil. This was just the tip as the company was already in early negotiations to build new hotels near some of Brazil’s biggest airports this would also be complemented by some beachfront resorts. These investments were made on the bet that they would pay off handsomely in future. As the world cup drew closer and the 2016 Summer Olympics, which would bring in millions of tourists carrying with them possible revenue streams of unimaginable magnitude. This is the kind of vision and drive that has seen Guilherme Paulus get referred to as the Midas of Tourism. His ability to see golden opportunities years before they happen and being resourceful enough to finance them or partner with others to ensure that his projects are well developed before such events take place is what sets him aside from other investors. Some of this skills Paulus admits were nurtured in his early life during a time when he worked for IBM as an intern.
